Yuki visited Indianapolis for the first time in two years. The first 250 cc race in 2008 was canceled due to bad weather. He has less experience with the circuit compared to other courses.
Once he got going, he quickly realized that like Silverstone, the course was not a good fit for his TECH3 Moto2 machine. This time, he brought a regular frame for the machine that had been reinforced, but he had to set up the machine while dealing with problems that were present even before it could be evaluated. The grip on the track was also different on the in-field section, and there were several crashes. It was so difficult that in the MotoGP class, the one and only Valentino Rossi crashed three times.
Yuki increased his pace while staying clear of the risks posed by the slippery track. However, he was unable to go on the attack as he wanted to, and focused instead on doing his best under the circumstances, placing 13th in the qualifying round. With so many crashes, it was expected that the final would also be a survival race. Yuki went into the race with his primary goal being to cross the finish line.
He got off to a good start, but on the second corner he got caught up in a multi-motorcycle crash. He did not crash himself, but he went out of the course to avoid them. It cost him a significant amount of time, but the red flag went up right away.
Nine laps were subtracted from the 26, and the race was restarted. Yuki was careful, but on the fifth lap, he was hit by another motorcycle from behind and crashed. It was an unavoidable accident. Yuki said he saw something blue appear on the inside, but there was nothing he could do. He started again, but his clutch was damaged so he had to go to the pit for repairs. Although he was behind by three laps, he kept going for his team, sponsors and fans and passed through the checkered flags in 26th place.
" It wasn’t my mistake, so that made it all the more frustrating. I guess I shouldn’t have been riding in that position...I’m going to move on, though, and do my best to ride a good race at Misano. Misano is near Cattolica, which was my home base for a long time. You could say it is my second home grand prix. I want to give a good performance. "
