The eighth race in Germany took place two weeks after Yuki's first Moto2 class victory at the seventh race in Catalonia. Normally it is the last round of the first half of the season, but this year the intervals are short, and the Czech GP is just around the corner three weeks later. The Sachsenring racing circuit is where Yuki emerged victorious in the 250 cc class four years ago. Coming off his victory in the last round, he and the team were in high spirits, and they brought in a modified frame that was not used last time.
Unfortunately, the frame was a mistake. He gradually reduced his time but ended up crashing while braking on the first corner at the end of the session, injuring the back of his right hand, his left ring and pinky fingers and his neck. He did not know why he crashed, so they rushed to go back to the frame used in the last race for the official qualifying round.
Going back to the drawing board on Saturday, Yuki gradually got his rhythm, and in his last attack of the qualifying round, he got the red mark for the best time in the first section. In the last section, however, he lost speed and was unable to improve his position. He ended up in 13th place for a fourth row start.
The morning of the final round brought rain. The Moto2 class was raced under half-wet conditions, but Yuki marked the 4th place time. Depending on the conditions in the final round, Yuki was confident he could get out in front right away...
By the time of the final race in the Moto2 class, the track had almost completely dried, so it started out under dry conditions.
There was a multi-bike crash on the first corner, but Yuki had gotten off to a slow start and avoided it. He was cautious during the opening lap, but when he tried to improve his position he saw a chance. However, as he was going into the high-speed left corner out of the back straight on the second lap, he got inside on the rider he was trying to pass and lined up side by side only to be blocked. As soon as he realized they were going to collide, he pulled away to miss the other rider narrowly, but it was not an angle he could turn. He was forced to bend the machine, but the track was either wet or covered in sand so, unable to control it, he went over the front of the machine. Fortunately, he was able to escape without serious injury.
Yuki now goes back to Japan for the Suzuka Circuit.
" There were some problems on the first day, but I was getting into a good rhythm on Saturday. Only the 1st place rider was ahead, and there was only a little distance between all the others, so I thought I was going to be able to have a good race. As usual, I had problems early in the race and even made contact with another rider once, which slowed me down. It's difficult to get good results in the Moto2 class on a constant basis, but I'm going to work with my team to get my second victory. "
